Top Trends for Wedding Dresses in 2009
Now that Fashion Week has unveiled the leading trends for Spring and Summer 2009, it’s the perfect time to plan next year’s wedding with stylish themes and pick out that ideal wedding dress. While metallics and bold prints reign supreme on the catwalk, jewel tones in green and blue, along with shocking pink and yellow were leading themes for many designers. Here’s a roundup of the top trends for wedding dresses in 2009:Yellow
Yellow satin and silk gowns capture the vibrant energy of spring and summer, and can easily be a part of the bridesmaid’s ensemble in a range of shades and colors. If you prefer a classic white wedding, you can still use yellow for trim in ribbons, bows, accents, and accessories. Yellow also pairs well with silver and metallic shades of the season, so don’t be afraid to add a ray of sunshine into the wedding getup with one of the season’s soon-to-be popular shade.
Black and White
For classic elegance and simplicity, black and white combinations are still a top trend in wedding gowns, dresses, and cocktail hour ensembles. Look for frock-style dresses that fall above the knee, as well as satin and chiffon gowns with a touch of 90s flair. 2009 draws upon many bold and classic looks from the 90s, and wrapping up a wedding dress in black and white jacquard prints or black ribbon accents on a white dress offer plenty of opportunities to catch the trend.
Jewel Toned Simplicity
Simple satin, matted silk, and chiffon gowns will lead the way in rich jewel tones including blue, aqua, green, and purple. Purple has made its way back into the trend closets in Fall/Winter 2007, and will continue its regal appearance through spring and summer 2009. Look for simple glittering accents of silver and gold to accompany rich blues, purples, and greens this season.
Oversized Rhinestones
Rhinestone embellishments and accessories have long been a classic touch for weddings, but 2009 calls for oversized jewels and the world of excess for trim and decor. Look for oversized rhinestones and large diamond studs on wedding gowns, veils, and accessories. Hair jewels and other small touches can add a touch of glamour to any wedding ensemble.
Silver and Grey Metallics
2007 called for plenty of metallics in dresses, handbags, and evening gowns; 2009 continues the trend with rich and matted versions for a luxurious touch in shimmering silver, gray and pewter. Gowns for bridesmaids decked out in silver satin and metallic accents add a touch of luxury to any simple theme, and the bride’s wedding dress can be accessorized with a silver sash, silver trimming, and other metallic accessories for a complete look.
From basic black and white prints to bold jewel tones in satin gowns, wedding trends in 2009 are focused on simple and sophisticated looks in all styles. Gone are the neon and busy prints of the 70s and 80s mod influences from 2007, although there’s still room for bright yellows and pink. 2009 is the year for a step back to the classics with simple and elegant designs with a focus on rich fabrics and luxurious trimmings.
